Other People's Perspectives

So I go to get my hair cut last night, and after telling my stylist that I'm pregnant, she asked if we're going to find out whether it's a girl or a boy. When I said no, she sounded so disappointed. It's funny - I've gotten this reaction from a few people!! I just think that their total disappointment is a funny reaction! I'm totally unfazed about not finding out - I'm excited for it to be a surprise! But then again I'm not a big fan of the need to assign gender roles to newborns by having them wear pink or blue ~ our child can wear white, beige, green, yellow, pink, blue, purple, black - no matter whether it's a boy or a girl! The poor child will become aware of gender roles soon enough in life, let's not rush it! :-)

And there's my 2 cents!

Almost there!

Well, I have one week to go before I'm in the second trimester - a milestone that used to seem so far away! I am starting to feel better ~ wearing maternity pants today too so that feels fabulous! They are a little big but that makes me feel even better after most of my regular clothes have been snug for like a month now!

We rented a doppler unit to use at home - it's a handheld device that doctor's use to hear the heartbeat of the little one during pregnancy, basically the same technology as an ultrasound machine but just for sound. We decided to get it after a few scary days to help us put our minds at ease during the 4-week stretches between doctor's appointments. It came in on Thursday, and after some searching on the internet for tips on best ways to find the little monkey's heartbeat this early, there it was, loud and clear!!!! It is the best sound ever! We listened again on Friday when Jerred was home, and we'll probably listen once a week or so!!! If I can figure out how to post it to the blog I will!! And I'm going to have Jerred start taking some pics of me this coming weekend finally, so I'll post those as well (although I really just look fat at this point, not pregnant, but oh well).

Otherwise nothing much new here - warm days in MN this week (30s!!) so it feels good. We are headed to NC to see my grandparents this coming weekend so we'll post the pics when we get back most likely! Yeah for 60 degree weather ahead in NC - sounds like tropical weather to us!

Happy Monday

It's Monday and it's in the single-digits in MN again with wind chills around -20 degrees fahrenheit.... good times! And I'm at work on a federal holiday ~ explains the amazing parking space I got this morning and the surprising lack of traffic on my way to work.

Things are going well - we've had a few worrisome moments throughout this pregnancy but so far everything is still looking good. I guess it's just the beginning of a life of worries - worries while the child is in the womb; worries after the baby is here and wondering if he/she is ok, eating enough, etc.; followed by worries about them growing up and getting through their teenage years, etc. So I suppose it's only natural to start worrying now! :-)

I finally discovered maternity pants on Friday - I haven't really gained enough weight for my pre-PG pants to not fit, but my weight has "shifted" and so I can only wear my pre-PG pants w/ this thing called a Bella Band (http://www.ingridandisabel.com/ if for some reason you are curious), and while it serves its purpose, it isn't the most comfortable way to wear my pants. The rubber-band trick only works for jeans or pants that have one button/zipper in front, not the case with most of my work pants!

So I made the trek to Motherhood Maternity Friday afternoon. I found 2 pairs of work pants and 1 pair of jeans that will work for a while - and since I don't have to wear my bella band I don't have to worry so much about the length of my shirts now! Real-waist maternity pants are saving the day! I had previously stocked up on some Old Navy materinity corduroys but they are still a little too big for me. But as people keep pointing out to me- I will grow into them! And since winter here lasts until almost May, I'm sure I can still wear corduroys at some point! :-)

Oh - and it's Pinewood Derby race time again - so that's what we did all day yesterday at Cam & Jeff's house w/ the kids ~ I will DEFINITELY post pictures when the cars are all painted and awesome. Looks like we'll have 2 race-cars, 1 hippopotamus, and 1 hawkeye. So fun!

MMMMM... Ice Cream!

So it took until I'm almost 11 weeks along, but I definitely am feeling a craving for some ice cream! Think I'll have to hit the store on my way home tonight!!! The pickles thing hasn't hit me yet - I love pickles, but I don't feel a craving for them. But some Coffee Toffee Heath Bar Crunch sounds perfect for tonight!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Why is it so hard.....

to find baby bedding that meets the following criteria:

1) Has no creatures/characters on it;
2) Comes in a shade of green that isn't nauseating;
3) Only has the parts you actually want (baby can't use a blanket for 1st year, bumpers are questionable - so you really want the sheet and the crib skirt, and a valance);
4) Fits items 1-3 above and costs less than $250!

I don't get it - we want a very simple, modern set up for this kid. Black furniture, green & white bedding - SOOO easy, right? WRONG! I find one set that is the right style/color, but it's a comforter, bumper, and skirt- I only want the skirt, but of course you can't buy the pieces separately anywhere. Or, I find a fabulous looking set that is perfect - except it costs $500 !!!!! $500 for baby bedding that the child will throw up on, poop and pee on - and not ever remember what it looked like! All of this, of course, made more difficult because I don't want pink or blue, but green - um, even if we knew what we were having I still wouldn't want pink or blue bedding - enough w/ the stereotypical boy/girl colors!!!

I think I've found some separates that I can use together that will work - but only after weeks of looking for something that doesn't have frogs or winnie the pooh or something else on it! Those are very cute sets - I have many friends that have cute bedding sets with creatures/characters - they just aren't our style!

Ok - rant over - just had to vent about the lack of affordable, modern, baby bedding separates. I can't wait until it's time to pick out bigger things! :-)

Thank you!

Just a quick note to say thank you to everyone for your e-mails, phone calls, and texts over the past few days! It is an amazing feeling to see how much you all love us! I will try to respond to all the e-mails by Wednesday night! :-)

Thank you all again - your well-wishes mean the world to us!

New Adventure

Yes, we've done it - we've decided to procreate! We will be welcoming a new addition to our family around September 6, 2008! Yes, we know it's around Labor Day and yes we think that's ironic too!

We had our first appointment with our OB on 2/7/08, at which we heard the most amazing, wonderful sound in the world - our little baby's heartbeat! It was going strong at about 150 bpm according to the doctor, and it was the best thing we've ever heard! The doctor said hearing it that strong and easily at this stage puts into the lowest miscarriage risk category - so here we are, telling the world about our future new arrival!!!

I have been feeling ok - morning sickness didn't arrive until around 8 weeks but since then it's been an interesting battle to find something to eat each day! I went from only wanting yellow/orange foods (grilled cheese, pineapple) to lately only wanting white foods (potatoes, pasta). So that's been interesting!

We do have a small battle ahead - Jerred wants to find out the sex of the baby and I do not. I think I've won that battle, though, seeing as how I'm the one that has to eventually go through labor! :-) So it will be a surprise for us this August/September!

But otherwise we are doing well!! Surviving another MN winter without suffering from frostbite!
